Carb-Heavy Food
Facing a plate of food in the morning may be the last thing you want to do, but once you get down a pile of pancakes, or
big bowl of pasta, your stomach won’t feel so raw.
Coconut Water
Sweet and thinner than you might think,
coconut water is packed with the anti-oxidants and electrolytes your body desperately needs after all the abuse you put it through. Look for juvenile or tender coconut water; it has the highest concentrations of anti-oxidants.
Coffee
Caffeine, found in coffee, is used in several headache remedies such a Excedrine. Avoid the acetaminophen and aspirin (studies link them to
increased liver damage when paired with alcohol). Instead, go straight for the sweet, sweet caffeine.
Sounds disgusting, but these tiny particles will soak up all the poison still swimming in your stomach and send it on its merry way. It will taste like it sounds, but it’s what hospitals use when pumping stomachs so it’s proven effective.
Hair of the Dog (More Booze!)
The old standby. Drinking alcohol in the morning will do nothing to help your body recover, but it will help you forget how miserable you are. Advice? Don’t try this one too often.
Self-Control
You could try moderation in drinking, but what’s the fun in that? Like the crew of
How I Met Your Mother who all vowed never to get “that drunk” again, but all did, the threat of a really bad hangover
doesn’t do much to prevent people from doing it all again. A recent study showed that people with hangovers waited a mere six hours to drink again.
